July is an important month for students who are having their transition, from primary to secondary and from secondary to university. Last year, I have gone through this transition, this year, it is my brother, my girlfriend and 3 of my IB students I'm worried about. I'm not going to cover the former two here since their result is not yet released. For my IB students, I am very proud of them to score 6 out of 7 in Business. I didn't go through IB before
To be frank, I did no go through the IB system before, I took DSE. However, an opportunity came when HKExcel invited me as a tutor in Business. Materials are given and the syllabus is what I have been studying in Business School. However, I have no idea what CUEGIS is about. I did not want to hide the fact that I did not tool IB before, so I took my students the truth. To be honest, the answering and brainstorming techniques are similar to DSE, but knowing nothing about how it can be tested, I approached my friends who took IB before and also asked humbly from my students for school past papers and online resources. Before each lesson, I used a lot of time doing the papers myself and made summary and customised practices for my students. It was a hard process, but it is my responsibility, as a teacher, to improve their mistakes. After a few lessons, I am familiarised with the format and the techniques to be tested. Teachers don't teach, they inspire

I may not be the best IB tutor, but I am sure I pretty much inspired my students. Teaching is not the only item on my list, inspiring and giving advice is too. I taught my students how to revise the in an efficient way, how to have better time management in exam, and most importantly, how to calm yourself down before exam. Time to time, I asked questions such as 'How much out of 10 are you confident in tomorrow's exam?'. The purpose is to let hem reflect upon themselves. When I travel, I buy food and souvenirs to my students as an encouragement. Teachers give students faith, encouragement and hope. My students were successfully admitted to The University of Hong Kong, University of Exeter and The University of British Columbia. As their teacher, I felt a sense of achievement. I hope they will graduate as inspirational figures and contribute to the society.
