I was on the way to work in the MTR when I saw an old man, approximately with an age of 70, kept offering seats to the elderly and telling children to sit at vacant seats.

I was the one witnessing. There were 2 helpful fellows in the cart throughout what happened: an old man with a hat and a foreigner. The old man came in and the foreigner offered a seat before I did. Not many people at that age can speak English due to low educational level, but he managed to use English to praise the foreigner. One passenger got off in the next station, so the old man told the foreigner to have that seat.

As the train stopped at the next station, another old man came in. To my surprise, both of them offer seats to him. The old man with hat told the foreigner to remain on his seat as if he was training his dog. He then offer the seat to the old man who just came in. People sitting nearby kept smiling because the scene was kind of funny.

Arriving the next station, some passengers got off and a parent with her 3-years-old daughter came in. The old man with hat was like a general, pointing a vacant seat to the child. This is the first time I was someone offering help rather than just offering their own seats.

Given the old man might have gone through the invasion and war time, he should hate foreigners, let alone talking to them. He was like a pro when it comes to offering seats and telling people where to sit. This reminds me how Hong Kong people, especially young students who have been featured in the news that they are unwilling to offer seats to the elderly. The old man is a contrast of those students. There is no obligation offering seats to others, but I don't see the reason why they are unwilling to do so. Helping others should be happy, his actions literally filled the cart with happiness. After the incident, I realized that helping is not merely about offering a seat, your actions will be a role model for the people sitting near you.
